SEC Provides Guidance on Enrolling in EDGAR Next

The SEC recently provided reminders, tips and resources for filers who are preparing for compliance with EDGAR Next, the September 2024 rule and form amendments that enhance the security of the SEC's EDGAR system and improve filers' ability to access and manage accounts. EDGAR Next applies to all registrants who electronically submit filings on the EDGAR system. This includes entities such as issuers and filing agents as well as individuals, such as officers and directors subject to the requirements of Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act.

The guidance is geared toward filers that are unsure if their passphrase and CIK confirmation code (CCC) are up to date and able to be used to enroll in EDGAR Next. The resources also are available for filers that are unable to find their passphrase and/or CCC needed to enroll. The SEC reminds filers that passphrases and CCCs created before September 2019 are not considered current and cannot be used to enroll.

Filers may use the SEC’s resources to do the following:

  • update their passphrase and CCC to enroll, thus ensuring the filer has a current passphrase and CCC to benefit from the simple EDGAR Next enrollment process
  • ensure their passphrase and CCC are current—without changing them—by entering the same codes on the EDGAR Filer Management website
  • obtain a new passphrase and CCC by using the EDGAR Filer Management website

More information on enrolling in EDGAR Next is available on the SEC’s website. For further assistance, please contact Filer Support via email at EDGARNext@sec.gov or by phone at (202) 551-8900 (choose option 2).

On September 15, 2025, compliance with all EDGAR Next rule and form amendments is required and necessary to file on EDGAR. As a reminder, GoFiler is already EDGAR Next compliant. For more information about how GoFiler can help you with the transition, contact support.
